Voluntary action

Maison Plein Cœur essentially relies on the constant commitment and contribution of some new people to add up a participation of 151 active volunteers in all the activity aereas of the organization.

The volunteer recruitment is carried out mainly by the means of the seasonal activities held to promote and give visibility to the organization. Every volunteer receives a basic training on the HIV-AIDS. This training, which is held normally during the autumn, approaches the history of the disease, the biomedical aspects, the psychosocial aspects and the issues related to accompaniment of people living with the HIV-AIDS.

Supporting and integrating volunteers in the various services is initially the concern of a worker responsible for the whole voluntary action in Maison Plein Cœur. On the other hand, in the daily action, volunteers are associated to the worker responsible for the service in which they take part to ensure a direct and flexible coordination of the services.

The majority of volunteers working in Maison Plein Cœur have the occasion to meet at the time of voluntary help recognition activities, for instance during the week of the voluntary action in April. Other activities also come to underline the calendar of seasonal feasts, like Valentine's day or Halloween. These festivals are celebrated with all the community of Maison Plein Cœur, including service users, community workers, members of the board of directors as well as the close relations.

The tai chi group is a remarkable example of voluntary action resulting from the intiative of people living with the HIV. This group is organized in collaboration with the Taoist Tai Chi Society which provides the instructors and the buildings, and of the CLSC des Faubourgs which lends a room. The group includes 30 participants and 4 instructors. The participants who are interested can take part in one week of meditation and training given in Orangeville, Ontario.

Tai chi is not only a physical activity, it is also a philosophy of healthy life for those which choose to be interested in it.
